Pump Jacks Can't Get Started At Brazos Valley

Bookmark and Share

East Texas falls behind out of the gate and cannot make a comeback against the Bombers.

Two separate four-run innings for the Bombers took the Pump Jacks out of the game early in an 11-1 loss by East Texas.

Brazos Valley got on the board in the first with two singles sandwiched around a double with one out against Pump Jacks starter Corey Ray. The latter single brought home two runs for a 2-0 lead for the home team. Then a walk and a two-run triple by Braden Mattson that just eluded the glove of a diving Taylor Murphy down the right field line doubled the advantage to 4-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the lead was widened to 5-0 after a leadoff double and a ground ball to third that was thrown wildly to first base. An RBI single later in the frame made the score 6-0 and chased Ray from the ballgame. Former Pump Jack Brandon Wood doubled in two more runs after a walk with two outs to make the score 8-0 Bombers.

The Pump Jacks were able to get on the board in the top of the sixth. Kevin O’Leary led off with a single and advanced all the way to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Connor Lloyd then got his first hit in a Pump Jacks uniform, an RBI single to right to drive in O’Leary and give the Jacks their first run, making the score 8-1.

But that would be all that East Texas was able to manage in the way of runs off of former Pump Jacks pitcher Kyle Martin (1-0). In seven innings against Martin, the Jacks would get just three hits total. Brazos Valley ended up scoring three more runs in the later innings for the 11-1 final score.

Ray (3-2) took the loss for the Pump Jacks, who received a lift from Lloyd, with his first Pump Jacks hit and his first RBI in the contest, as well as Braden Strickland, who relieved Ray and saved the bullpen for East Texas, pitching the remaining five innings of the ballgame.

The Jacks return home on Friday evening for another edition of Fireworks Friday, presented by CBS 19. With just one game at historic Driller Park this week, the home team is looking to pack the park as they light up the night sky with an Olympic-sized postgame fireworks display. The Pump Jacks face off against the Brazos Valley Bombers, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Jacks will also have a bounce house at historic Driller Park for Fireworks Friday, with the help of A & V Sales and Rentals in Henderson. Fans interested in arranging a bounce house for a party of their own can contact A & V at (903) 238-5522.
