Allied Waste to Sponsor Fireworks Friday on June 24

Pump Jacks’ championship rematch with the Generals will be followed by the team’s traditional Friday post-game celebration

If the East Texas Pump Jacks season is around the corner, that must mean one of the most anticipated promotions is coming soon, too: fireworks.

The Pump Jacks today announced Allied Waste will sponsor the June 24 Fireworks Friday, making it the first sponsored fireworks show of the 2011 season.

“We couldn’t be happier that Allied Waste is sponsoring Fireworks Friday on June 24,” said Pump Jacks general manager Mike Lieberman. “Allied Waste is a prominent firm in East Texas and they’ve supported us in the past, so we’re pleased they’ve chosen to keep the Fireworks Friday tradition intact
with their partnership.”

Allied Wasted officials were just as excited about the new partnership.

“We're looking forward to the 2011 season,” general manager James Murphy said. “So bring the family out to enjoy our fireworks night on June 24!”

Murphy went on to explain why Allied Waste chose to become involved with the Pump Jacks.

“Allied Waste has been part of the East Texas community for over forty years based in Kilgore,” added Murphy. “As a KEDC top ten major employer, our 200-plus employees and their families make their homes here. Partnering with a local institution like the East Texas Pump Jacks further demonstrates our commitment to the local community.”

The game that evening will carry a little more weight for Pump Jacks fans than the typical affair. The Jacks welcome the Victoria Generals to town, making the game a rematch of the 2010 TCL Championship Series. East Texas fell in that best-of-three series at the hands of the Generals after defeating the Brazos Valley Bombers to reach the championship round.

The fireworks show will begin shortly after the Pump Jacks game concludes. As has become customary for Fireworks Friday, the show will be set to a unique themed soundtrack. Fans will be able to help choose the theme or content of the soundtrack online, so look for information on the Pump Jacks web site and Facebook page as the fireworks night gets closer.

The Pump Jacks have hosted 14 post-game fireworks shows in their first three seasons, and the team hopes to continue the tradition this summer. The Jacks have five Friday home games on the schedule and the team needs partners to make each one a Fireworks Friday. The Pump Jacks season will open on June 1 with a two-game set in Victoria. After a series in Coppell against the three-time champion Copperheads, the Jacks return to East Texas for the 2011 home opener on Monday, June 6, against the Generals. Click here to view the complete schedule.
