Biography:
A sophomore out of McNeese State, Lee got off to a bumpy start with the Cowboys as a freshman in 2008. He was lost for the spring to an injury just nine games into the season, but received a medical redshirt so he didn’t lose a year of eligibility.
He certainly made up for lost time in 2009.
Lee roared onto the scene, earning a spot on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team. His 15 home runs, 57 RBI, and 18 stolen bases all led the Cowboys, becoming the first McNeese player to top the squad in all three categories since future major leaguer Ben Broussard turned the trick in 1999. Lee batted .301 and also led the team in runs (52), triples (4), extra-base hits (30), total bases (123), walks (37), and slugging percentage (.628). He ranked among the conference leaders in homers, RBI, steals, walks, and slugging percentage.
His performance didn’t go unnoticed in the Southland Conference, where he earned third-team all-conference honors.
Lee followed up that performance by hitting .286 with 17 homers and 56 RBI, and he stole 23 bases in 28 attempts. His home runs and 10 hit-by-pitches both led the team, and the circuit shots were tied for tops in the Southland conference while he was third in steals. He also tied for seventh in the conference with 56 RBI.
Lee was once again named All-Southland Conference third team, and he was taken by the Cincinnati Redsin the 40th round of the 2010 draft.
A three-sport star at El Campo (Texas) High School, Lee was a two-time all-district infielder for the Ricebirds. He was also an all-district performer and district MVP in basketball as a forward, and an all-state kick returner in football.
