Biography:

Matt comes to East Texas by way of the University of the Pacific, where he is expected to be a two-way threat in the mold of 2009 Pump Jack Jamie Niley. The junior transfer was a first-team all-conference selection last spring when he starred at Palomar College. He led the Comets in RBI with 43 while batting .352 on the season, adding an impressive .497 slugging percentage that leapt to over .600 in conference play. He even dabbled on the mound, tossing a scoreless inning.

He went on to play last summer for the Saratoga Phillies in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, batting .224 in 32 games.

Matt’s collegiate career began in 2008, when he suited up for Cal State-Northridge. In 13 games, he managed to bat .294 while driving in three runs and scoring three more.

Matt was a two-year letterwinner in baseball at Poway High School, just north of San Diego. He batted .333 as a junior in helping the Titans capture a CIF title. As a senior, he hit at a .273 clip with 17 RBI in 34 games.
