Biography:

Jarid went to Stephen F. Austin State out of high school without a guaranteed spot on the team. He walked on to the squad, and by the end of his freshman season he was the starting catcher. As a freshman Jarid made 24 starts after debuting March 15. He hit .306 with five home runs in 85 at-bats. Jarid showed he can put the ball in play, striking out only six times.

Jarid hit .306 again his sophomore year, this time jacking seven home runs and driving in 46 in 193 at-bats. He stole five bases in seven attempts and threw out 12 runners attempting to steal on him.

A four-year letterman at Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, Jarid earned second-team academic all-state honors as a senior. He earned all-district and all-city mention for his play on the field as a catcher, first baseman and outfielder. For his career he batted .365 with two home runs and 32 RBI, and his team won the 2006 Louisiana Class 4A championship.
