Biography:

In his second try, Joey finally completed his junior season at Lamar University. In 2009, after transferring to Lamar from Angelina College in Lufkin, Joey suffered a shoulder injury eight games into the season and was granted a medical redshirt year. That season had started well, with Joey collecting 10 hits in the eight games—five for extra bases—and driving in seven.

He came back in 2010 and hit .298 for the Cardinals with five home runs and 30 RBI. From behind the plate, Joey fielded the most chances on the team and had 319 putouts. He also caught 10 runners trying to steal for the Southland Conference tournament champions. Joey was named to the all-tournament team after going 2-4 with two runs and two RBI in the championship game.

Joey played his high school ball at Clear Creek High School in League City in the Houston area. He was a three-year letterwinner and was named All-District 24-5A and to the All-Galveston County team as a junior and senior.
