Biography:
Russell will return to East Texas for a second season, much to the delight of Pump Jacks fans. An All-TCL performer in 2009, the speedy outfielder tied for second in the league and tops on the team with 11 steals. He closed out the season with a .276 average, 34 hits, and 22 runs, all among the team leaders. His performance earned national attention as well, with "Summer Ball", a web site dedicated to summer collegiate baseball, naming LaFleur a "Player to Watch in 2010."
Though 2010 will be Russell’s second season with the Jacks, it will be his third summer with head coach Ben Taylor. In 2008, following Russell’s freshman season at Missouri, he joined Ben and the San Luis Obispo Blues. Despite limited playing time in the spring, Russell flashed his skills with the Blues, batting .323 and displaying his trademark speed on the basepaths and in the field.
Russell will return to East Texas as a junior out of Mizzou. In his freshman campaign, he batted .250 in limited action. He was unable to crack the lineup as a sophomore, instead channeling his energy toward his breakout summer with the Pump Jacks.
Russell starred at Katy’s Morton Ranch High School, where he batted .360 and stole 50 bases during his prep career. A pre-season All-Houston selection prior to his senior campaign, Russell batted .305 and swiped 28 bases that season. He was named academic all-district and all-state as a senior. Following his junior season, Russell was named to the all-city second team and added academic all-district honors. |
