Biography:
Chad joins the Pump Jacks for the third straight season, and as such he becomes the only player to wear the Jacks uniform all three years of the team's existence.
The Bullard native returns to the Jacks after sitting out the spring at UT-Tyler because of shoulder surgery. Chad transferred to Tyler after a year at Texas A&M, where he started three games in 2009.
2010 marks Chad’s fourth year in summer ball. After his 2007 freshman season at Panola College, Chad played for the Staunton Braves of the Valley League. He followed that up with an injury-shortened 2008 with the Jacks but returned in 2009 as an excellent reliever. Chad finished his second East Texas summer with a 2-1 record, 2.66 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 20.1 innings.
Despite finishing with a hard-luck 3-6 record at Panola in 2008, Chad also posted a 3.00 ERA and team-leading 79 strikeouts in 66 innings. He ranked third in Region XIV in strikeouts and strikeout rate (1.20 per inning) last season as well.
Chad’s performance that spring came on the heels of a stunning freshman campaign with the Ponies that saw him write his name in the record books. The hulking righthander finished second in Region XIV with a 1.90 ERA, earning a spot on the all-conference team and an invitation to the Texas-New Mexico Junior College All-Star Game.
Following his freshman season with the Ponies, Chad headed to Staunton to take on the Valley League. He shined with a 5-2 mark and a 2.47 ERA, finishing first or second on the team in nearly all major pitching categories. He also ranked among the league leaders in ERA and opponents’ batting average (.191) and earned league Pitcher of the Week honors in late June.
At Bullard High School, Chad was twice named to the all-state team, once at third base and then at catcher. |
